MONTICELLO – Sullivan County is going
to revive the small grants program to assist municipalities, not-for-profits
and community groups with implementing projects to enhance the county.
The county legislature has allocated $100,000 toward the program and has
released details on eligibility requirements, how to apply, and the timeline
and procedures for reviewing applications. That information is available
at the county Division of Planning and Environmental Management.

“Sometimes all it takes for a good idea to become a great idea is
a small financial push to get it off the ground,” said Legislature
Chairman Scott Samuelson.

The Plans and Progress program offers funding for projects including community
and economic development, tourism, telecommunications, image enhancement,
recreation, sustainability, agricultural protection, and quality of life.
The focus is on advancing the county and local planning goals.

Each of the county’s nine legislative districts has been allocated
$10,000 in Planning and Progress funding and an additional $10,000 is
available but not tied to a specific district. Project budgets must include
a minimum 50 percent share of the costs from non-county sources, which
may include local, state and federal funding, in-kind services by municipalities
or organizations, donations of materials and professional services from
private for-profit businesses, and not-for-profit sweat equity.

Applications will be received on a rolling basis, with the first round
of reviews to assess all funding requests through April 30. Additional
rounds will occur subject to availability of funding.
