WASHINGTON – The federal Office of Management and Budget has completed its 10-year review of metropolitan areas and redefined those in the Hudson Valley.
The Dutchess-Orange and the Putnam-Rockland-Westchester metro regions have been modified with those labor areas replaced by the Dutchess-Putnam metropolitan area and the Orange-Rockland-Westchester labor market area.
For the 12 month period ending in January, Greene County scored the largest increase in new jobs, with a 4.1 percent growth. Columbia County had a two percent growth in jobs while the Ulster County metropolitan region had a 1.7 percent increase in jobs, the Orange-Rockland-Westchester region saw 1.3 percent more jobs and the Dutchess-Putnam metro area increased 0.5 percent.
Sullivan County saw no job growth in that 12-month period.
Region-wide, jobs grew by 1.4 percent with increases in education and health services; natural resources, mining and construction; professional and business services; and trade, transportation and utilities. Job losses were largest in leisure and hospitality; information; and manufacturing.
