NEWBURGH – Mayor Judy Kennedy will formally launch her campaign for a second four-year term on Saturday, March 21. The Newburgh mayor will likely face a Democratic Party primary election in September as City Councilwoman Gay Lee has already announced her intention to run.
No Republican has announced at this point.
In her first term, Kennedy said she has created a payment plan so those
who owe back taxes may keep their homes; hired “an excellent”
city manager, city engineer and grants manager, and soon will hire a new
police chief; kept the tax levy the same for three years; launches the
River of Opportunities Campaign to attract new businesses; welcomed the
state’s only city land bank; and expanded recreational and education
opportunities for youth and adults by hiring a parks and recreation director,
continuing to support the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, and developing
a skate park.
