WINONA LAKE – Fire Saturday night caused heavy damage to a residence
at 77 Meadow Hill Road in the Winona Lake area of the Town of Newburgh.

Fire Chief Tony Weed said the two-alarm blaze kept firefighters from a
number of departments busy in the cold weather.

“Upon arrival, there was heavy fire in the garage area. It spread
into the kitchen, living room and attic. It took about 50 minutes to get
under control,” he said.
The family of four in the house escaped unharmed and firefighters rescued
a cat inside.

There were no reported injuries and the cause is under investigation.

Weed said the greatest difficulty in battling the fire was caused by the
ice buildup on the roof making it difficult to vent it and cold weather.
