Brooklyn women charged with passing counterfeit AmEx travelers checks

KINGSTON – Two women from Brooklyn have been charged by State Police with making purchases with counterfeit $100 American Express travelers checks at the Target store in the Town of Ulster.
Zakiya Franklin, and Natain Reid, both 20, were each charged with two counts of felony criminal possession of a forged instrument, two counts of petit larceny and conspiracy, as misdemeanors.
Troopers began an investigation into fake travelers checks used at several Target stores from Long Island to Saratoga Spring.
Following the arrest of the women on the Ulster charges, police are looking into the other counterfeit checks cashed at other stores around the state.
Franklin and Reid were sent to the Ulster County jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $75,000 bond.
