Kingston Hospital

KINGSTON – Should the HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley close its Kingston Hospital campus at some point, Ulster County Comptroller Elliott Auerbach suggested that the federal government convert it into a veterans’ center for medical and mental health services for men and women who have served the country.
Auerbach made his recommendation on Thursday to Congressman Christopher Gibson (R, NY19), himself a retired career army officer.
The comptroller said the hospital facility would be an ideal location for supportive clinical care.
“Not only providing medical care, but mental health services as well and we often hear about the challenges that our veterans are facing when they return back to civilian life and this may be an excellent conduit to get those folks back into what we regard as a normal day to day life,” Auerbach said.
He said such a center would be a next step for vets following up on County Executive Michael Hein’s Patriots Project for homeless veterans.
