NEWBURGH – Three vehicles stolen in one week this month in Newburgh all had something in common – they were running, unlocked and unattended.
City Police are urging residents to adopt a behavior to prevent their vehicles from being stolen – turn them off and lock them.
“Especially in this cold weather, drivers will pull up to a convenience store and leave their car running or start it up in the morning in order to warm it up. It only takes a few seconds to steal a running vehicle,” said Acting Police Chief Daniel Cameron.
Police are urging all residents to take a few extra moments to turn off their cars and lock the doors, even if they are planning to be away from them for only a minute.
All three vehicles stolen this month were recovered by police and so far, two arrests have been made.
