POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County is moving forward with its plans to make the county airport in Wappinger a moneymaking economic engine for the county.
County administration is taking a three-prong approach to the effort, said Ronald Hicks, the county’s deputy planning commissioner.
“Included in the county’s efforts to develop the airport is an request for proposals for a fixed base operator to privatize portions of the airport’s operations; a $2.6 million bond to bring water to the airport and the corporate park and corporate park on Airport Drive; and incentives to attract jet aviation operations,” he said.
Hicks said the goal is to eliminate the airport’s operational deficit and use the asset to create jobs and investment.
