NEW CITY – Rockland County Executive Edwin Day announced on Monday the appointment of Dr. David Freed as acting county commissioner of hospitals.
Freed will be focused on a renewed approach to providing patient-centered healthcare through the process of transferring the facility’s ownership to Sympaticare, LLC.
“David Freed’s tremendous experience – including a proven track record of navigating troubled hospitals through major fiscal challenges – makes him the perfect leader to guide us in this critical phase of our journey,” said Day. “He brings exactly what Summit Park Hospital and Nursing Care Center needs today – a highly-skilled industry veteran, who is decisive, focused and inspirational.”
Freed most recently served for 13 years as president and CEO of Nyack Hospital where he led a strategic and successful corporate turnaround in the wake of a six-month nursing strike and near-financial collapse of the 375-bed community hospital.
In 2014, he positioned Nyack Hospital to become a member of the Montefiore Health System in a partnership to enhance care and offer new forms of population health services to Rockland residents.
