On Saturday, April 20, 2024, John A. Churcher of Highland Mills, New York (a former longtime Suffern, N.Y resident) peacefully passed away at 85 at Montefiore Nyack Hospital, Nyack, N.Y.

A United States Marine Corps Veteran and a retired Police Officer of the New York City Police Department (46th Precinct), John’s service to his country and community was marked by honor and courage.

Survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Churcher, at home, John leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion as the cherished father of John Churcher and wife Carolyn, Ann Marie Turso, Eileen Disken and husband Brian, and Kristen Churcher. His loving papa/grandpa role extended to Jake, Kelley, Kaitlyn Churcher, Cassidy Weitzer, Daniella, and Alicia Turso.  His brother Albert Churcher of Franklin, TN, also survives him, and he was predeceased by his sister, the late Mary Porras.

Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

The Family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2362 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, New York 10306. (Or through PayPal Tunnel to Towers Foundation www.t2t.org) or to help a family in need.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 26 Hunter Street, Highland Mills, N.Y. 10930. The New York City Police Department Ceremonial Unit will pay tribute to their fellow officer during the service.

The Flynn Family and Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers have been entrusted with caring for John’s arrangements.
