Carlos Arranz
April 7, 1945 ~ April 5, 2024 (age 78)

Carlos Arranz of Modena, NY, passed away peacefully Friday, April 5, 2024, at his home in Modena. He was 78.

The son of the late Avelino and Carmen Bousono Arranz, he was born April 7, 1945, in Newark, NJ and grew up in Walden, NY. He graduated from Valley Central High School in 1965 and spent most of his life in Modena, NY where he raised his family.

Carlos served as a Second-Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy from 1965-1973. Following completion of his service to his country, he worked as an Audio-Visual Production Officer at West Point Military Academy until he retired in 2005.

The most important thing for Carlos was his family. Having lost his own father as a child, this experience inspired his commitment to sacrificing and always being there in raising his own children, once telling a friend “when I lost my father, I promised myself I would always be around for my kids no matter what.” Carlos did this with a commitment and dedication that evolved into later becoming a devoted grandfather to his three grandchildren whom he was always ready to play with, support, and nurture.

Carlos was also a proud Vietnam Veteran and active in many Veterans events and functions. You would rarely see him without his Vietnam Veterans hat on his head, whether while visiting with family and friends or eating dinner at a nice restaurant.

Carlos was an avid hunter throughout his life, sharing the fruits of his hobby with others. He displayed his trophies with both pride and self-aware humor.

Survivors include his son Corey Arranz and his wife Karin of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; his daughter Carla Chivattoni of Modena, NY; his three grandchildren Evan Carlos Arranz, Ashleigh Carmann Arranz, and Austin John Chivattoni; his sister Sonnia Ferb and her husband Charles; and his sister Sandra Martin and her husband James as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Carlos was also predeceased by his brother Javier Arranz.

Visitation will be Friday, April 12, 2024, 3pm-7pm at Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bona Ventura Ave., Wallkill, NY 12589.

Military honors will take place at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Ulster County Veterans Cemetery at New Paltz Rural Cemetery, New Paltz, NY.
