Egan runs for Poughkeepsie Common Council

POUGHKEEPSIE – Attorney Shane Egan has declared his candidacy for the Fourth Ward seat on the Poughkeepsie Common Council. That post is currently held by Democrat Sarah Brannen, who is not seeking reelection. Egan has been endorsed by the Republican and Conservative parties.

He cited lowering the cost of living, fostering economic development and improving public safety as his top priorities.

“My goal on the council will be to put Poughkeepsie first,” Egan said. “That means finding common sense solutions to the problems facing Poughkeepsie.” He pointed to recent lawsuits filed by the Democrat-controlled council against the Republican mayor as “steps in the wrong direction.”

The lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie previously served as a commissioner on the city’s Historic Preservation Commission and currently serves on the board of directors of Dutchess Outreach, a not-for-profit organization with its mission to combat hunger and provide relief services.
