bPINE BUSH – First responders were relieved Sunday morning when
they located William Scheinert, 79, a Pine Bush man who suffers from Alzheimer’s
disease. He walked away from his home overnight on Friday night into Saturday
morning.
That triggered a massive search all day Saturday and early Sunday morning until the word came that Scheinert was located. He was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill in good condition, Crawford Town Police Chief Dominick Blasko said.
Assisting in the search were state forest rangers, State Police, Orange
County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Office of Emergency Management,
Pine Bush Fire Department and ambulance corps, and several local police,
fire and search-and-rescue teams.
Blasko urged residents to sign up for the CodeRED notification system and “if you have an elderly person that needs monitoring for dementia or Alzheimer, contact the Orange County Office for the Aging for Operation Life Saver.”
