KIAMESHA LAKE – Sullivan County Legislator Scott Samuelson was elected on Tuesday as president of the New York State Association of Counties for the upcoming year.

At its fall conference held at Resorts World Catskills in Kiamesha Lake, the association also presented Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus with the Executive Director’s Award for Public Service for his commitment and service to the county and the country.

Neuhaus serves in the US Navy Reserves as a lieutenant commander assigned to a Naval Special Operations Team. He was deployed on active duty from November of last year until late June of this year, serving with the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force. The majority of his deployment was in Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

“Public service comes in many ways and County Executive Neuhaus has demonstrated his commitment to the resident of Orange County,” said Stephen Acquario, NYSAC executive director.

Samuelson has been a member of the Sullivan County Legislature since 2012 and served as its chairman for four years from 2012 through 2015.

NYSAC is a bipartisan municipal association serving all 62 counties in the state including New York City. Its mission is to represent, educate, advocate for, and serve member counties and the thousands of elected and appointed county officials who serve the public.
