TOWN OF WALLKILL – A Town of Wallkill man is in the Orange County Jail for allegedly shooting his mother minutes before 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
Wallkill Police charged Derrick Fields, 27, of Wallkill with first-degree assault, possession of a weapon, robbery, assault on a police officer and attempted escape in the shooting of his 45-year-old mother. She was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center by a neighbor where she was listed in stable condition.
Police were initially called to the scene for a report of assault with a weapon. The mother had come to the location at 41 Greenway Terrace because a resident reported that Fields was violent.
Fields is held in lieu of $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond.
