STEWART AIRPORT – The Stewart Airport Express, the Coach USA/Shortline nonstop bus service from New York Stewart International Airport to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan, is feeling the pinch of the continued grounding of Boeing’s 737 Max jets.

Norwegian Air was operating nonstop flights to Europe from the Newburgh area airport, but when the 737Max jets were grounded nationwide following two foreign airline fatal crashes, the flights were reduced and that has negatively impacted the bus service, said its president, Nowel Scoon.

“We are not operating as frequently as we planned to and I would suspect that our ridership has also plummeted as a result because we are not doing as many trips,” Scoon said. “Just because of that circumstance, that business model isn’t where we expected it to be, but as long as they can resolve this issue with the 737s with Boeing, we can right back on track with them.”

The Stewart Express was operating three daily roundtrips timed to the Norwegian flights, but has cut back to one for the time being.
