POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie extended by one month the deadline to receive expressions of interest for repurposing of the former Dutchess YMCA building.

The deadline was moved back from August 5 to September 5 to garner interest in the Montgomery Street property.

At this point, the city has received “a couple” of expressions of interest, but officials thought with summer here, it would be a good idea to move the end date another month, said city spokesman John Penney.

The city has held two well-attended meetings to hear recommendations from the public.

“Whatever becomes of the site, this will no doubt be a complex project, which will likely spur innovation and new collaborations,” said Mayor Rob Rolison. “The public comments to date have been insightful.”

Among the recommendations from city residents are youth activities and recreation.
