TOWN OF NORTHEAST – A 26-year-old Canaan, Connecticut woman was
killed Sunday morning when her car ran off a road in the Town of Northeast,
struck an embankment, and rolled over ejecting her.

Dutchess County Sheriff’s Captain John Watterson said Aubrey Schmitt
was found lying near her car with serious injuries. She was given emergency
care, but died at the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that at around 5:35 a.m., she was driving
a 2005 Nissan Altima westbound on Sharon Road when she lost control. Watterson
said at this time, alcohol involvement is suspected, and the investigation
is continuing by the sheriff’s office Crash Investigation Unit.

Schmitt was the only occupant in the car and was not wearing a seatbelt.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Millerton
Fire Department and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
