Putnam Jail inmate charged with assaulting two corrections officers

CARMEL – An inmate housed
at the Putnam County Jail has been charged with felony assault for allegedly
attacking two corrections officers at the Carmel facility.

The inmate, identified as Carlos Lopez, 21, reported to have been homeless
sin Brewster at the time of his incarceration, allegedly attacked the
two officers, who were injured while performing their duties in the jail
on February 8.

Lopez is an unsentenced inmate committed by Brewster Justice Court on
a felony charge of criminal mischief, who is being held in lieu of $50,000
cash bail.

If found guilty of the new charges, he could face up to seven years in
state prison for each and he continues to face up to four years in prison
for the original charge.

The attack on the officers was investigated by the sheriff’s office
bureau of criminal investigation.
