MIDDLETOWN – Skateboarders couldn’t wait to hit the ramps on the new Middletown Skateboard Park as city officials cut the ribbon on the facility on Friday afternoon.

Sophia Steeps, 6, cut the ribbon to open the park,
which quickly filled with skateboarders

The $500,000 cost of the professionally designed and constructed concrete facility behind City Hall is the first phase of a passive park, which will be funded by $2.5 million of the city’s $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative from the state, noted Mayor Joseph DeStefano.
“It will include parking redesign; it will include possible incorporation of City Hall lots, plantings, trees, the Heritage Trail going through,” the mayor said. “It’s really going to be an open urban passive park for people to enjoy and hang out in Downtown Middletown.”
The City of Newburgh will hold a groundbreaking ceremony next Friday to start construction of its skateboard park at Delano-Hitch Park.
