KINGSTON – In light of the gun violence plaguing the nation in recent years, Kingston Alderman Reynolds Scott-Childress has proposed that the city adopt a memorializing resolution calling for repealing the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Scott-Childress raised the issue at the common council’s Laws and Rules Committee session Wednesday night to “start a conversation” about the violence that has taken the lives of hundreds of Americans.

Alderman Carl Frankel said there are other ways to address the issue.

“Between the combination of putting a target on us for crazies out there and the ultimate uselessness of it, I would ask if there were not other ways that you can start the same conversation,” he said.

Alderwoman Michelle Hirsch suggested the council bring other groups into the dialogue to consider other ways to curb gun violence.

The committee tabled the memorializing resolution.
