NEWBURGH – A massive search was underway Wednesday night after a man fell into the Hudson River off the City of Newburgh.

Divers from fire departments across Orange County, as far away as from Port Jervis, Sparrowbush and Monroe, responded to the scene to assist Newburgh firefighters in locating the man who fell into the dark waters just before 10 p.m.

Police said the man was walking outside the Blu Pointe Restaurant with either friends or family when he fell into the river. He never resurfaced.

The search went on well into the overnight hours.

The river current was very strong due to the recent heavy rains.
