WARWICK – A gun that was mentioned during the defamation lawsuit against former President Donald Trump has been seized by Warwick Police, according to Chief John Rader.  During the February trial, the plaintiff, E. Jean Carroll testified that she possessed an unlicensed firearm in her home.

Warwick Police Chief John Rader confirmed that he visited Carroll’s Warwick home on February 16, 2024, and took into possession, for safekeeping, a Hi-Standard Double Nine revolver from her.

“The handgun was voluntarily turned in while Ms. Carroll goes through the court process of obtaining a New York State pistol permit,” Rader said. “The gun was checked through a database and was not connected to any crimes or incidents either locally or nationally. The process followed is consistent with how Orange County handles a voluntary surrender with the facts of this case.”

Rader said that the gun will remain in the custody of the Town of Warwick Police Department until such time that a valid permit is issued by the court.

During the second day of President Trump’s civil trial in January, Carroll testified in federal court in Manhattan that she kept “a high standard revolver, nine chambers at home with ammunition by her bed.” Carroll added that she does not have a license.

Earlier this year, a jury ordered Trump to pay Carroll $83.3 million in damages for repeatedly defaming her. The award included $11 million for damage to Carroll’s reputation, $7.3 million for emotional harm and other damages, and $65 million in punitive damages.
