WARWICK – Three-plus months into the job, Town of Warwick Supervisor Jesse Dwyer still has pictures, awards and keepsakes in his office that he has yet to put up on his walls.

In short time, Dwyer will find a place for the diplomas, mementos and other pictures. For now, Dwyer is busy running the biggest town in Orange County, and he loves the fast pace of the work.

“I’m diving right into it,” Dwyer, 38, said. “It is an incredibly challenging job that requires careful actions and demands a lot of time and focus. But I am enjoying it. The people I work with are great and Warwick is an amazing town.”

Dwyer was the odds-on favorite to replace well-liked Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton, who retired in December of last year after 21 years of service. Dwyer became the Village of Greenwood Lake’s youngest Mayor in 2013, serving 10 years. He ran unopposed for Town of Warwick Supervisor last November.

Dwyer, an EMT with the Greenwood Lake and Warwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a Little League coach, credits Sweeton, in part, for preparing him for the Supervisor job over the years. Dwyer now oversees 140 employees, compared to about 30 in Greenwood Lake.

“This is Greenwood Lake times 15, but it wasn’t a surprise, and I think my experience as a mayor has helped me,” Dwyer said. “It was a great time to utilize and leadership ability to take on this role.”

Dwyer’s priorities during his first three-plus months of office have included securing funding to rebuild the Jayne Street Bridge in the Village of Florida with State funding, utilizing Federal funding to construct a path between Cascade Lake Park in the Town of Warwick and Hickory Hill Golf Course and rehabilitate the 40-year-old Wickham sewer district. He has also protected residents from short-term rentals and has held three revocation hearings at Town Hall.

“Jesse is very energetic and certainly driven,” said Town of Warwick Police Chief John Rader. “Like Michael Sweeton, I can already see that he has the best interests of the community in mind. That is his priority and has been tackling all the issues and working very well with everyone. Jesse will be very good for Warwick.”
