GOSHEN – A 24-year-old Newburgh man pled guilty in Orange County Court on Friday to two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

The pleas were in connection with Christian Brown having possessed a handgun on two different dates in the City of Newburgh.

Under the plea agreement, the district attorney’s office will recommend that he be sentenced to 18 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision when sentenced in July.

Brown admitted that on July 6, 2023, he possessed a loaded handgun on Broadway in the City of Newburgh, which he fired at another person, who was not injured.

He also admitted that on October 21, 2023, he possessed a loaded gun while outside the Lake Street apartments in Newburgh. Police recovered a loaded 9 mm pistol when they arrested Brown.

Testing of the expelled shell casings showed the gun that Brown fired in July was not the same weapon he was carrying in October.
