NEWBURGH – The 2024-25 Newburgh school district budget as proposed by Superintendent Dr. Jackielyn Manning-Campbell includes cutting 66 teachers.

There are 1108 teachers who are members of the Newburgh Teachers Association, and the cuts would amount to just under six percent of the roster.

Of the 189 teachers’ aides employed, 16, of 8.5 percent, would be cut.

The superintendent’s proposed $358.2 million budget includes a total reduction of 102.5 positions, most of which she said are through retirement/attrition and vacancies. She also said 78 were funding by American Rescue Funds in fiscal year 2024 and they were not planned to be maintained in the new academic year.

A total of $11 million in fund balance is included in the revenue to close the gap in a cash shortfall in the proposed spending plan.
