GOSHEN – An 18-year-old New Windsor man was sentenced in Orange County Court on Monday to seven years in state prison and 20 years of post-release supervision in connection with his previous guilty plea to rape.

The sentence imposed was the maximum available under the law.

Alejandro Benitez must also be registered as a sex offender.

Benitez has previously admitted in court that being 18 or older, he had sex with a person who was less than 15 years old.

“We owe an obligation to protect all children from sexual predators,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “Cases like this one are both sensitive and challenging for police and prosecutors. My office will continue to provide support for victims of sexual assault and seek to hold offenders accountable for their actions.”

He commended the survivor “for coming forward and being heard.”
