Performance during 2022 festival

NEWBURGH – It looks like the popular Newburgh Illuminated Festival won’t happen this summer for the second year in a row.

It went down to the wire last summer when the city and organizers could not come to terms on certain issues.

Now, it appears it will not happen again because the city and Illuminated leaders cannot agree on certain terms again, said lead organizer Rich Fracasse.

“We asked for the State Police to assist and we asked for the sheriff’s department to assist the city guys. The City of Newburgh Police are some good guys but there is just not enough of them,” he said. “And we asked for golf carts because there is no way that I can, or the handful of us, can manage a 100,000-person festival that covers miles on foot. We can’t do it.”

Mayor Torrance Harvey recently said the city will not agree to those terms and it appears Newburgh Illuminated will not take place again this summer.
