LIBERTY- The Sullivan County Center for Workforce Development and Sullivan County BOCES have teamed up to offer a free automotive technician course beginning on April 9, 2024.  A total of 15 people from Sullivan County will be selected for the course and upon completion will be Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified technicians.

Jeffrey Molusky from BOCES talked about the training that they will receive.  “They will be learning the basics of auto mechanics.  Which would be brakes, rotors, vehicle safety, power steering, ABS systems, and electronics to be able to hopefully get them a job in the field.”

There is an increasing demand for automobile technicians in Sullivan County and the Center for Workforce Development thinks that it’s a win-win for both Sullivan County residents in need of a job and businesses who need technicians.

BOCES is proving the training garage as well as a classroom at its Ferndale campus to host the program.  Classes will be held in the evenings and BOCES Superintendent Robert Dufour talked about the collaboration and what it means for workforce development.

“We teach the hard skills–the cutting, the hammering, the measuring.  They came in and taught the soft skills- resumes, interview, applications.  They brought in business people from the county to sit down and meet with the students with the goal of having jobs waiting for them on the back end when they completed the program,” Dufour said.

In order to apply for one of the openings, individuals must be 18 years or older and live in Sullivan County.  For more information, or to apply contact the Center for Workforce Development at 845-794-3340 or email linda.kalman@sullivanny.us.
