MID-HUDSON – Roads and basements flooded out as torrential rains fell on the Mid-Hudson Valley on Saturday. Power lines were also torn down as trees toppled over.

In the Monroe area, a flooded westbound Route 17 westbound resulted in a minivan running off the road and into a swamp. The driver was not injured.

Route 17 was narrowed to one lane in each direction while crews worked to drain the road of the flood waters.

There was also flooding on Prospect Road in South Blooming Grove the result of drain-off from a huge housing development under construction.

In the Town of Wallkill a two-lane tunnel under Metro-North Railroad tracks was flooded out and closed to motorists for a while.
