WAWARSING – Tuesday night’s blaze that destroyed the Winter Chalet building at the once-popular Nevele Resort in Wawarsing/Ellenville continued to smolder well into Wednesday.
Ellenville Fire Chief Jody Krom said the flames were seen for miles.
“People calling, calling saying they see flames. We put the fire out, but it kept smoldering. I have to come back every few hours to look at it and make sure everything is okay,” he said.
The iconic main tower building was not damaged by the fire that brought out several departments from Ulster and Sullivan counties.
No one was injured in the firefighting operations and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
