GOSHEN- Last year in Orange County 13 motorcyclists were killed in traffic accidents and ahead of the Spring motorcycle season, County Sheriff Paul Arteta is seeking ways to make the county’s roadways safer for bikers.  Arteta is a biker himself.

“I’m fearful with the condition of our roadways and the increase in motorcycle operators, we may, unfortunately, have our worst year in crashes,” Arteta said.  “As a rider myself, I want to ensure we all do our part to make our roadways safer.”

Arteta said he is working with Orange County Emergency Services and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee to educate motorists about motorcycle safety.

Earlier this month, a motorcyclist in the City of Newburgh died after colliding with a car, marking the first death of a biker in Orange County in 2024.
