LIBERTY- A 38-year-old Monticello woman has been arrested for having multiple handguns on the campus of Liberty High School.

According to the Village of Liberty Police Department, Amanda Jones had three firearms, a Ruger 9mm semi-automatic handgun, a loaded Ruger .22 caliber semi-auto handgun, and a Glock 43 9mm semi-automatic handgun, during a traffic stop.  Further investigation revealed that before the traffic stop, Jones had been on the grounds of Liberty High School with all three weapons in the same motor vehicle.

Jones was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, all felonies, and was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court.  The Sullivan County District Attorney’s office asked the arraigning judge to set bail on Jones but she was released on her recognizance without bail pending a future court appearance.

“Our department will continue to aggressively investigate and take appropriate enforcement action on any instances of unlawful possession of weapons on school grounds,” Liberty Police Chief Steven D’Agata said.  “The safety of the entire school community continues to be a priority of our department and we will continue to utilize all lawful tools and measures to ensure that safety.”
