STAATSBURG- Follow the FDR High School President’s Players as they jaunt down the Yellow Brick Road for a delightful stage adaption of the classic musical “The Wizard of Oz.”

The story centers on Dorothy, who with her dog Toto, is transported to the Land of Oz where they are determined to reach the Emerald City to see the great and powerful Wizard of Oz to help get them home. Along the way, they meet a host of colorful characters including the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, and the Wicked Witch of the West.

This production, directed by music teacher Amy Martin, will incorporate the iconic musical score from the 1939 MGM film with additional numbers not heard in the movie.

“As the famous movie celebrates its 85th anniversary, the characters and songs are as memorable as ever,” Martin said. “It will surely be a show to remember.”

The musical will feature the largest cast in many years, including a host of young talent from across the district’s elementary schools, portraying our munchkins.

“I am beyond excited about this year’s production, not only because ‘The Wizard of Oz’ is one of my favorite shows, but also because some of our elementary students have joined the cast,” Melinda DiMaio, director of fine and performing arts said. “This play is exciting to watch, but also conveys a heartfelt message about the true meaning of home and friendship.”

The show will run March 8 and 9 with performances at 7 p.m. and on March 10 with a performance at 2 p.m. in the FDR auditorium at 156 South Cross Road in Staatsburg. Additionally, an open dress rehearsal will be held March 7 at 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors and are available for purchase at: http://fdrhs.booktix.net/
