GRAHAMSVILLE- Emily Lucak, a sophomore from Tri-Valley High School, received a $1,000 FFA grant sponsored by Domino’s. This grant will go toward her project that operates to eliminate food waste at her school.

Lucak is one of twenty students across the nation to receive a $1,000 supervised agriculture experience (SAE) grant funded by Domino’s, as part of Domino’s $1.5 million commitment to National FFA.

Lucak’s project produces freeze-dried fruits available for her community – a project that stemmed from the amount of waste that was accruing from leftover fruit at her school. Lucak will freeze-dry the fruit that would have ended up in the trash and distribute it to her peers and community members as a healthy snack.

Lucak currently serves as her FFA chapters Sentinel. Outside of FFA, Lucak plays junior varsity soccer, junior varsity basketball and varsity softball, and is a part of the National Honor Society. In her free time, Lucak volunteers at Ulster County Community Food Bank and at her school’s community garden.

“As a Domino’s franchisee, I know firsthand that we would not have our delicious pizza without the farmers who work hard to produce the ingredients we use in our stores every day,” said Riz Khan, local Domino’s franchise owner. “I am so proud that Domino’s supports local FFA students across the country – they are truly making a positive difference in the future of the agriculture industry.”

Domino’s has supported National FFA since 2017. In the first five years of their partnership, Domino’s contributed $1 million to the organization to support students through scholarships and grants. In 2022, Domino’s pledged $1.5 million over the course of five years. This support continues to fund grants and scholarships, as well as the development of sustainable agriculture education. The new education resources will cover topics such as water conservation, soil health and waste management.
