Life of Det. John Falcone remembered on 13th anniversary of his murder

CARMEL – It was 13 years ago on February 18, 2011, when Poughkeepsie City Police Detective John Falcone was shot and killed during a domestic incident on a city street shortly after 1 p.m.

Falcone, a native of Carmel was remembered in his hometown on Sunday.

Before serving in Poughkeepsie, Det. Falcone was a Putnam County Sheriff’s cadet and a Town of Kent Police Officer.

“Detective Falcone’s ultimate sacrifice is a poignant reminder of the inherent risk law enforcement officers face in their duties,” said Putnam County Sheriff Kevin McConville said Sunday. “Though he may no longer be with us, his dedication and heroism will forever be in our hearts and minds. We honor his memory and express our deepest gratitude for his service and sacrifice.”

A Mass was celebrated at St. James Church in Carmel on Sunday in honor of Falcone’s memory and sacrifice.
