Car hits school bus head-on in Monticello (VIDEO)

MONTICELLO – A head-on collision between a school bus and a sedan shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday  resulted in four ambulances rushing to the scene to attend to the reported three adults and two special needs children on the bus and one person in the car, first responders said.

The accident occurred at Old Liberty Road and Crescent Lane in Monticello where the driver of the car crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and struck the bus.

Sheriff’s deputies found a 2023 Kia Forte driven by Shyla Carlson, 43, of Hurleyville was traveling southbound when her car swerved into the path of the bus, hitting it head on.

The bus, which belonged to Bus Student Company of Spring Valley, was transporting six students of various ages to the Center for Discovery. No injuries were reported on the bus.

Carlson was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center  Catskills for treatment of a hand injury.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Hurleyville Fire Department, Mobile Medic, Rock Hill Ambulance, Hatzolah Ambulance, Bethel Ambulance, SC EMS-1 and 2 and the State Police.

Authorities said the accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
