NEW WINDSOR – Three men from Queens, considered to be part of an organized crime ring, were arrested by New Windsor Police on Friday evening after cops responded to a report of a burglary in progress.  Several surrounding police agencies assisted the New Windsor officers in apprehending the suspects.

Three suspects, James Torres Tinoco, 41, Diego Hernandez-Corba, 29, and Julian Cortes Cacamelo, 23, were each charged with two felony counts of burglary.  While being processed, police learned that Hernandez-Corba had an outstanding felony warrant for a burglary charge from Westport, Connecticut.  As a result, Hernandez-Corba was charged and handled as a fugitive from justice.  All three are facing additional charges pending an Orange County grand jury investigation.

New Windsor Police Chief Daniel Valeri says that his officers responded to the Continental Drive address after the homeowner called and reported he was using his surveillance cameras to observe two men trying to gain entry into his residence.

As the first officers arrived, they observed a vehicle with a New Jersey registration fleeing the scene.  Shortly after, they found the getaway vehicle perched atop a stone wall where it had crashed along Blooming Grove Turnpike.  The driver was apprehended near the crash site.

Police in the Continental Drive neighborhood apprehended two other male suspects who were believed to have been involved in the burglary.

While investigating the Friday evening burglary, the New Windsor Police Department was also notified of a reported residential burglary that had recently occurred at a Creamery Drive residence in the Butter Hill neighborhood. Following an investigation into that incident, police determined that the Continental Drive suspects were also responsible for the Creamery Drive burglary.

Chief Valeri says that his patrol officers and investigators worked together along with the assisting agencies in apprehending the suspected burglars.  “It was a great display of teamwork and coordination.”

All three alleged felons were held for arraignment at the Centralized Arraignment Part in Goshen.

Valeri said that his agency was assisted by officers from the City of Newburgh, Town of Cornwall, Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, Town of Woodbury, Town of Blooming Grove, and Chester police departments.  The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and members of the New York State Police also assisted at the scene.
