BEACON – The new more than 16,000 square foot Beacon City firehouse is taking shape.

Construction began last summer and it will be completed in less than 11 months, says Mayor Lee Kyriacou.

“We are expecting to open it before the end of this year and it’s just about closed in now and I think all of the wells for our geothermal are done so most of the work is going to move inside to start to finish,” he said.

The former main firehouse, at the same location as the new one, was 10,000 square feet in size. The new facility will include bays for additional firetrucks and ambulances.

The project will consolidate apparatus that has been located at three different firehouses in the hybrid department of paid firefighters and volunteers.
