BEACON – The City of Beacon’s main firehouse is about to undergo a full renovation and expansion. The project is out to bid with work to begin later this spring.

The current 10,000-square-foot structure will be expanded by another 6,400 square feet, said City Administrator Chris White.

“It will have five bays. It will basically accommodate the current needs of the department and the future growth needs of the department,” he said. “It will have six bedrooms in it as we expand the size of our professional shifts, we will have extra bedrooms.”

The new building will be able to fit the modern fire apparatus. The old firehouses are too small for the latest vehicles.

Beacon has three active firetrucks and one in reserve. The new building will accommodate all of those as well as the city’s paid advanced life support ambulance service, Ambulnz.
