Woman charged with setting café on fire

NEW ROCHELLE – A Bronx woman has been arrested by New Rochelle Police for allegedly setting fire to the Drake Main Café at 1 Drake Avenue at 1 Drake Avenue overnight Tuesday, December 12.

The bar owner told police a dispute had occurred earlier in the evening between the suspect, identified as Freissy Batista-Pereya, 32, and restaurant staff.

She left the building but returned a short time later with a gas can, proceeding to pour gas on the outside walls and the entryway before lighting it and fleeing.

The bar owner was able to extinguish the fire and police captured Batista-Pereya attempting to flee in an Uber.

She was charged with arson, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
