KINGSTON – Members of the Ulster County Legislature’s Ways and Means Committee are deadlocked over a resolution that would double the two percent hotel-motel occupancy tax.

At issue is whether an increased room tax would be applied to the total bill of an all-inclusive resort like Mohonk Mountain House and Rocking Horse Ranch or if it should be applied only to the cost of the room but exclude amenities like meals and recreational activities.

Some lawmakers argued it would be unfair to other venues like hotels that offer swimming and some meals.

The issue was tabled for one week so legislators can further consider the issues at hand.
