ALBANY – Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday that several communities in the Hudson Valley will receive grants for critical water infrastructure projects, including the first funding awarded through the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022.

The grants announced include nearly $450 million statewide awarded through the state’s Water Infrastructure Improvement (WIIA) and Intermunicipal Grant (IMG) programs. Funding this round is made possible with $249 million from the governor’s historic commitment to water quality infrastructure, and $200 million from the Environmental Bond Act.

The WIIA and IMG programs were named as tools in the voter-approved Bond Act to help leverage funding for water quality and resilient infrastructure improvements.

Hudson Valley grants include $5 million for the Town of East Fishkill, whose supervisor, Nicholas D’Allesandro said the funds will be used to tie water systems together.

“This is a project we submitted to interconnect up to five different water systems in our town and some of the systems have water quality issues like PFAS and PFOA, very bad chemicals,” he said.

The City of Newburgh will receive $8.9 million for a new combined sewer control facility, said Mayor Torrance Harvey.

“We are going to be able to remove floatables and disinfect the wastewater during the wet weather storm events, reduce and combine sewer overflows and improving water quality of the Hudson River,” he said.

Newburgh has already received a $17 million grant toward the project.
