MONTICELLO- The State Office of Cannabis Management has opened applications for communities to host a Cannabis Growers Showcase and the Village of Monticello is hoping to be one of the lucky communities selected.  The village board, by a vote of three to two, voted in favor of applying to host the event.

The showcase is designed to allow licensed cannabis growers and processors to showcase New York cannabis products to consumers.  At the showcase, consumers would be able to purchase safe, legal cannabis from licensed retailers.

Mayor George Nickolados voted in support of hosing the event.

“I think it would be a good idea to get, you know, get that going,” said Nickolados.  “Unfortunately, you see a lot of not a sanctioned marijuana sales in the area so to get people here, who are following the law and are going to be able to get the farmers some money, it’d be great.”

It is not known if the village will be selected to host the showcase, and if approved, when it would be scheduled to take place.
