POUGHKEEPSIE – The members of the City of Poughkeepsie police department are asking the public for help to keep people warm this winter. The officers are accepting donations of new/unused blankets that will be distributed to those struggling to stay warm as winter arrives and warm temperatures leave.
Officer Danielle Costa told Mid-Hudson News that she will be at the city Public Safety Building at 505 Main Street from Monday, December 4 until Wednesday, December 6, to collect donations from those willing to help. Costa will be in the community room of the building from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. all three days.
“Our officers are constantly seeking new ways to help those members of the community that are struggling,” Costa said. “This is the first time we are doing a blanket drive so we don’t have an idea what to expect as far as collections, but we will make sure every blanket we take in will be provided to a person who needs one.” The police will be including blankets for senior and veteran housing, if there are enough blankets received.
