SLEEPY HOLLOW-  Phelps Hospital, part of Northwell Health, raised $470,000 at the 36th annual Phelps Champagne Ball fundraiser held at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club on Friday, October 20th.  The intimate black-tie affair, attended by more than 310 loyal friends, guests, and philanthropists, supported the hospital’s mission to provide quality, compassionate healthcare to the community.  The evening honored Judy and Mike Sullivan for their long-standing commitment to the hospital, Phelps’ world-class multidisciplinary neurosciences team and Emil Nigro, MD, former chair of the emergency department and current president of the medical staff at Phelps Hospital.

A highlight of the evening was a heartfelt tribute to Judy and Mike Sullivan, who have a 45-year history with Phelps Hospital.  Their support has been instrumental in realizing pivotal projects, including a new private patient wing, a state-of-the-art technology upgrade for the hospital’s emergency department, and the recently inaugurated Thomas E. and Alice Maria Hales Caregivers Center.  Furthermore, the Sullivans have funded a novel program designed to nurture aspiring professionals in the allied health fields, a testament to their commitment to the broader health and well-being of the Westchester community.

The event also celebrated the exceptional achievements of the hospital’s multidisciplinary neurosciences team with a video and on-stage recognition. Another exciting part of the evening was the announcement and presentation of the inaugural “Emil J. Nigro, Friends Caring for Friends Award” to Dr. Nigro, who has dedicated more than 45 years to Phelps Hospital’s mission of improving community health.  Future recipients will be chosen based on substantial and enduring contributions to advance the hospital’s mission and cultivate a culture of compassionate care.  The evening reached its pinnacle with the Fund-a-Cause segment, which raised $250,000, a majority of the evening’s fundraising, to establish the Neuroendovascular Surgery Fellowship program.

“The generous spirit of all our supporters who came together for this remarkable event is truly inspiring,” said Eileen Egan, RN, JD, executive director of Phelps Hospital.  “This year, we honor the Sullivans for their commitment to Phelps and community health, the neurosciences team for providing cutting-edge surgery and life-saving procedures, and Dr. Nigro for his illustrious career in raising community health.”
