KINGSTON –  For the second time, Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger has donated $7,200 of her annual salary to the SUNY Ulster President’s Challenge Scholarship program.

Ther funds will cover the cost of tuition for a first-generation college-bound student for two years.

The challenge program, administered by the SUNY Ulster Foundation, identifies eighth-grade students who would be the first in their families to attend college and provides them with mentoring and college readiness support through high school.

When they complete high school, the students may then attend SUNY Ulster tuition-free for two years.

“I believe in the power of education to expand opportunities and change lives, and everyone should have the chance to continue with their education after high school if they so choose,” Metzger said.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a student for the program can contact Executive Director Lorraine Salmon at 845-687-5093 or SalmonL@sunyulster.edu.
