WASHINGTON – Congressmen Pat Ryan (D, NY-18) and Marc Molinaro (R, NY-19) have introduced legislation on Thursday that would permanently ban “additional anchorages” permanently.

“We owe it to our kids, our seniors, and future generations to fight with everything we’ve got,” said Ryan. “This legislation will stop big corporations from turning our Hudson River into a parking lot for dangerous barges one and for all.”

He said those barges “threaten the health and safety of our kids, the more than 100,000 people who rely on the river for their drinking water, and our entire ecosystem.”

Molinaro said their bill “is a line in the sand. We will not sit on the sidelines and watch corporate interests jeopardize the Hudson River, its drinking water, and ecosystem.”

Their legislation comes following a Coast Guard change of rules that would allow barge parking north of the Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge.
