NEWBURGH -Students at Newburgh Free Academy’s two campuses should be able to better concentrate on their classroom studies as the Newburgh school district will be introducing Yondr pouches in the coming weeks.

High school co-principals Matteo Doddo and Susan Valentino said the “innovative pouches are designed to promote focus, reduce distractions, and create a more conducive learning environment.”

They are a tool that can help students manage their device usages during class time as they are designed to securely store and lock away smartphones, smart watches, airpods and tablets, allowing students to concentrate on their lessons without the temptation of distractions, the school officials said.

Students retain their devices, but place them in a pouch that locks, reducing the temptation to text or surf online while in class.

“We believe that the introduction of Yondr Pouches will be a valuable addition to our learning environment and will contribute to the academic success and personal growth of your child,” Doddo and Valentino wrote in an open letter to parents and guardians.

The schools will hold a parent town hall on Thursday, November 9 at NFA Main campus auditorium to further discuss the new program.

It is tentatively planned to be rolled out on November 28 at NFA North and on December 11 at NFA Main.
