Arrest made in Town of Newburgh bank robbery

NEWBURGH- The Town of Newburgh Police have made an arrest in connection with a bank robbery that took place on September 9, 2023, at the Walden Savings Bank on Route 9W in the Town of Newburgh.

Police have arrested Sunil Kumar, 46 years old, of Wantagh, New Jersey, and charged him with robbery in connection with the bank heist.  According to police, Kumar entered the bank, claimed to have a gun, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Following the robbery, law enforcement searched the area for hours but no suspect was located.  A multi-agency investigation that included the FBI and spanned two states concluded with Kumar’s arrest.

Kumar was processed by police, and per New York State’s bail reform law was released on an appearance ticket pending a future court appearance.
